Miracles (2025-26)

Inspired by 18th and 19th century Portuguese votive paintings, these works explore the idea of surrendering to something greater — nature, a spiritual guide, an emotion, a process. In christian tradition, people often commissioned votive paintings after a traumatic event, (such as severe illness or an accident) to thank saints for their intervention. Those paintings hold a sense of awe, which signifies both the terror and gratitude of being subject to a divine entity that has the power to decide over life and death.
